As an opponent they have been unbelievable
A final word from Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on trying to compete with Manchester City for the Premier League title: “We are in the journey to try to catch them. It makes you better always when someone challenges you to go further and further. The recent history of City has been of winning trophies. As an opponent they have been unbelievable over the last 15 years, but we want to change that. We are doing everything we can to improve [to challenge them] and are getting better and better. We have done very well this season and hope we can do the same [against Manchester United] on Sunday.”
‘My brain takes me to a place where we are lifting the Premier League’
Mikel Arteta was asked what he would do if he was offered a contract that ensured Arsenal would win the Premier League if they won their final two games: “I would take that pen and sign it. My brain always takes me to the place where we are lifting the Premier League. That is where my brain is at the moment. So I just follow my brain and my gut. This is how I feel and this is the way I want everybody to think and hopefully we can achieve it.”
Arteta ‘very positive’ kite flying will help Fulham against Man City
Earlier, Pep Guardiola was asked about Fulham players flying a kite as a team bonding exercise before their match against Manchester City. Mikel Arteta has also been asked about it: “The power of team bonding nobody knows what is it, but sometimes you get some amazing results with it. I have been in teams where we have been struggling to win a game, and gone out for a meal or a night out and the next thing we have gone on an unbelievable run. I am very positive that that is what is going to happen to Fulham.”
On his best experience of team bonding as a player: “We have done trips with David Moyes [at Everton] – he used to take us on trips around the US – one of the best I ever had in my life.”
More from Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on Jorginho signing an new contract with the club: “I think there is no question about his contribution to the team – the way he feels about his team-mates, about the club, about the way we play. He is someone that makes everybody else better. That’s his main quality.
“He is still hungry, he wants to win, he wants to win with us. He’s happy here, his family is happy so for us it was a really easy decision.
“He is a very important player because of the way he communicates, his understanding, the way he coaches people is excellent. You need those types of players but on top of that, as a model, it is very difficult to find someone that is better than him.”
