Atlético-MG ends Sport’s unbeaten run and takes the lead in the Copa do Brasil

Atlético  -MG took an important step towards qualifying for the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil . This Tuesday (30), the team led by coach Gabriel Milito beat  Sport  2-0, in the first leg of the third phase, played at Arena MRV. The goals were scored by Matías Zaracho and Guilherme Arana.

Galo’s victory put an end to Leão’s streak of 13 games without defeat. The team from Minas Gerais increased its undefeated streak to 10 games. The next clash between the clubs will take place on May 22, at 7pm (Brasília time), in Recife.

On Saturday (4), Alvinegro returns to play in the  Brazilian Championship . In Cariacica, Espírito Santo, they will face Fluminense in the 5th round. Sport returns to the field next Friday (3), at 8:30 pm. The team visits Coritiba, at the Couto Pereira stadium, in Curitiba, Paraná, for the 3rd round of Series B.

Rested in the 3-0 victory over Cuiabá , in the last round of the Brasileirão, striker Hulk, midfielder Rodrigo Battaglia and left-back Guilherme Arana were once again used by Milito .

Jemerson, who did not play at Arena Pantanal, was the only one who continued without playing. Not even related, he is being prepared to return in the next match against Fluminense . According to the club, the number 34 is not injured and was only preserved by the Argentine commander.

suffocating athletic

Atlético-MG “smothered” the opponent in the first half of the match. With high marking and putting a lot of pressure on the ball from the Pernambuco team, Alvinegro gave no peace to the visitors’ defensive system.

On the right side, Gustavo Scarpa set the pace; on the left, Guilherme Arana. At 10 minutes, the number 6 even found the net, scoring what would be his seventh goal since arriving at the club at the beginning of the year. However, due to Hulk’s offside at the origin of the move, the referee, with the help of VAR, invalidated the move.

To get an idea of Atletica’s dominance, there were 10 shots against two from Leão da Ilha in the first half.

Zaracho goal

Due to the pressure, Galo’s goal was a matter of time. In the 28th minute, in a good triangulation, the ball was played to Zaracho who, with a header, opened the scoring at Arena MRV.

Confusion

Confusion was recorded during different moments of the match. An  Atlético-MG fan allegedly invaded the visiting sector  and tried to steal a flag from an organized Sport fan base.

Arana expands in the second half

After the break, Atlético maintained the tone of the first half and continued looking to increase the score. At 12, it worked. After a corner was taken, Arana appeared inside the area and was faster than the opposing defense to leave it.

The teams continued in search of another goal in the match. Eduardo Vargas even scored Galo’s third, but he was in an irregular position and the goal was disallowed. Sport tries to create counterattacks, but stops at Atlético’s defense.
