Copa do Brasil: booed, Flamengo beats Amazonas on Gabigol’s return
On Wednesday night (1), which marked Gabigol’s return after around 40 days away, Flamengo beat Amazonas 1-0 , at Maracanã, in the first game of the third phase of the Copa do Brasil.
Despite the triumph, the red and black fans were not satisfied with the performance and booed Tite’s team several times in the second half , in addition to cursing the coach — the opponent is currently competing in Series B for the first time in its short history.
The goal of the match was scored by center forward Pedro, just 19 minutes into the game , taking advantage of Viña’s cross.
Gabigol, who had been suspended for anti-doping fraud since the end of March , started the game on the bench and came on during the second half. He won a party and ended up being spared the boos at Maracanã.
Flamengo and Amazonas meet again on May 22, also a Wednesday, at Arena da Amazônia. The Rio team will have the advantage of a draw.
How was the game
The match had an open start, with Amazonas escaping twice on the left side. The shots, however, did not pose any danger to Matheus Cunha’s goal.
Flamengo responded with De La Cruz, from outside the area, and Viña, who received a great pass from the Uruguayan, but shot over Edson Mardden’s goal.
The solution came from the left side. In a table with Bruno Henrique, Viña reached the baseline at speed and crossed to Pedro’s head. Free, the number 9 scored 1-0 with a header, at 20!
Boos at halftime
With an advantage on the scoreboard, Flamengo began to dictate the pace of the game. If it didn’t suffer defensively, Tite’s team was also unable to transform possession into clear chances.
Lorran, new among the starters, was the one who tried to face the opponent’s marking, but he also didn’t complete the individual moves well. So, at the end of the first half, part of the crowd booed.
Rubro-Negro tried a better performance and had good opportunities right after the break. Lorran and Viña, in the first and sixth minutes, finished and almost increased the score.
Gabigol’s return
What raised the crowd the most, however, was Gabigol warming up and Tite bringing him into the game after 20 minutes. Despite applauding the entry, the Nation was not happy with De La Cruz’s departure.
The number 10’s participation was discreet. Given Flamengo’s inability to overcome the opponent’s defense, the game dragged on until the final minutes amid several changes.
At 38, Luiz Araújo disarmed the rival defender and had rare space to attack, but was stopped when he invaded the area. In this way, the boos came even before the final whistle at Maracanã.
