Malaysia needs to use expertise to drive the halal industry – Tengku Zafrul
RIYADH – Malaysia needs to collectively utilize expertise and resources to drive growth and sustainable development in the halal industry, said Investment, Trade and Industry Minister, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.
He said such actions are an important step for the country because the halal industry is dealing with complexities in a rapidly changing global landscape.
“In line with the objectives of the Halal Economic Leadership Forum 2024 (HELF 2024), the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote trade facilitation, industrial development and market access for halal products and services.
“We are dedicated to fostering closer cooperation with our partners in Saudi Arabia and other key stakeholders to harness the great potential of the halal economy and create a more inclusive, equitable and prosperous future for all,” said Tengku Zafrul in his speech read by the Malaysian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah.
HELF 2024 is jointly organized by the Halal Development Corporation, the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the Saudi Arabian Halal Product Development Company (HPDC), in conjunction with the IsDB Private Sector Forum which takes place from April 28-30, 2024.
In addition, the global momentum surrounding the halal economy offers an interesting narrative for Malaysia, capitalizing on its important position in the global halal market, he said.
“As a leader in Islamic finance and the wider Islamic economy, Malaysia is at the forefront of this growing halal industry.
“The growth of the halal sector which is driven not only among the global Muslim population but also by factors such as added value, cleanliness and authenticity, has placed Malaysian halal products in a high position and made them the main choice for non-Muslim consumers,” he said
This is coupled with the Madani economic concept that includes the vision of national development, emphasizing the increase in trade and fostering an innovative and competitive halal industry, he said. – Named
