PH is confident of remaining in KKB, unfazed by PN’s outdated campaign attack – Mahfuz

ALOR SETAR – Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates are believed to retain the Kuala Kubu Baharu State Assembly (DUN) seat in the by-election (PRK) on May 11.

The Vice President of Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), Datuk Mahfuz Omar said, it is based on the increased support of the local community towards the Unity Government’s ability to govern either at the state or national level.

According to him, because of that, his party is not upset with the Perikatan Nasional (PN) campaign which still plays on racial sentiments or personal attacks against PH candidates.

“I see that the community there (Kuala Kubu Haru) can already see and evaluate the diversity and ability of the Unity Government to carry out various efforts to develop the country.

“It gives an increase in the confidence of the people of various races whether Malay, Chinese or Indian as well as other ethnic groups who will continue to support PH,” he said when met at his Aidilfitri Open House, here on Tuesday.

Mahfuz said PH did not need to worry about PN campaigns that still carry racist sentiments that are considered outdated.

“When it reaches a certain stage, the voters will be able to judge, the group brings a rather harsh approach, I am not worried about such a campaign because the community already sees it as something dangerous to the future of the country,” he said.

According to him, so far the campaigns of both parties are going well, but the PN has still not come out of the campaign based on racist and narrow religious sentiments which is scary.

“This is because they want to focus on Malay votes, that’s why they (PN) field Malay candidates, so PN brings sentiments that scare the Malay community, that our country will be colonized by other people and so on in political talks,” he said.

Commenting on certain parties playing the academic certificate issue of the two candidates, Mahfuz described it as childish politics.

“Regardless of which party, I think we don’t need to play uch an issue. More important is what service each candidate can bring, high commitment to the community and the people,” he explained.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu State Assembly by-election saw a four-cornered clash between PH represented by Pang Sock Tao, Khairul Azhari Saut representing PN, in addition to Hafizah Zainuddin from Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) and Independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.

Some political analysts predict the real competition will be between the PH and PN candidates, who are said to have an equal chance of winning.
