São Paulo: Pablo Maia will undergo surgery, and Welington has a diagnosed injury
New injuries plague São Paulo this season. This Tuesday (30), the club confirmed two more cases . More seriously, it was decided that midfielder Pablo Maia will undergo surgery on his left thigh.
Left-back Welington has a ligament injury on his right ankle and has started treatment with physiotherapy. In both cases, Tricolor does not give a deadline for return
According to information from the club, Pablo Maia will undergo a surgical procedure this Wednesday (1) to reinsert the joint tendon of the semitendinosus and biceps femoris of his left thigh.
Pablo Maia was injured in training
The player was injured in the last training session before the derby with Palmeiras, this Monday (29), which ended in a 0-0 draw . He was replaced by Bobadilla in the starting lineup.
Before São Paulo confirmed the severity of the injury, Pablo Maia spoke out on social media.
Not being on the field yesterday to help my teammates, due to an injury, was a very bad feeling. But now it’s time to hold my head high, focus on my treatment, be 100% committed to my recovery, follow all medical protocols and be back as soon as possible. In the meantime, I will be supporting my teammates from São Paulo during this period away from the field. Thank you everyone for the messages of support and affection. Soon, I’ll be back, even stronger and more warrior than ever

Welington’s case and problem on the side
Regarding Welington, the problem happened during the classic with the Alviverde team. The player asked to be replaced and gave way to Michel Araujo. This Tuesday, an examination revealed a ligament injury to his right ankle.
This worsens an old problem on the left side. Welington, who ends his contract at the end of the season and has not yet agreed on a renewal, is considered a unique piece for the sector.
Without him, Patryck, the home team’s silver medalist, is the only alternative who originally plays on the left flank. Throughout the season, however, he received few chances.
Thus, Michel Araujo remains the main replacement option, even acting improvised. There is also the possibility of Ferreira playing on the left side, if the scheme with three defenders is maintained.
Other players in São Paulo’s medical department
São Paulo’s medical department still has three players considered to be starters who are recovering:
- Striker Lucas Moura is recovering from an injury to the back of his left thigh
- Striker Wellington Rato is treating a syndesmosis injury in his left ankle
- Right-back Rafinha had a fracture in his left fibula and even attended the classic with Palmeiras with the region immobilized by an orthopedic boot.
Of these three cases, Lucas is more advanced and may have a quicker return.
