SPR is currently in a meeting to discuss the PRK DUN Kuala Kubu Baharu affairs
PUTRAJAYA: A special meeting of the General Election Commission (SPR) to discuss matters and important dates for the Kuala Kubu Baharu State Legislative Council (DUN) Minor Election (PRK), is currently taking place at the SPR Tower here.
The meeting chaired by the Chairman of the SPR, Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh, started at 10 that morning, including to determine important dates for the PRK such as the election writ date, candidate naming day, drawing day and voter list to be used as well as other preparations.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Chairman of SPR, Dr Azmi Sharom and Secretary of SPR, Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak.
SPR will hold a media conference after the meeting.
On March 26, Ikmalrudin announced that the special meeting was being held after the command received an official announcement from Selangor DUN Speaker Lau Weng San regarding the extraordinary vacancy of the N06 Kuala Kubu Baharu seat.
Ikmalrudin said, as provided under the Selangor State Government Body Law 1959, Chapter 5 Article (5) Case LXX, the extra-term vacancy must be filled within 60 days from the date the vacancy takes effect and is approved by the SPR.
The DUN Kuala Kubu Baharu seat is vacant following the death of its holder, Lee Kee Hiong, on March 21.
Lee, 58, who was a member of the Kuala Kubu Baharu State Legislative Council (ADUN) under the Hulu Selangor Parliament since 2013, died after battling cancer for several years. – NAMED
